Blomdahl's vessels combine a powerful, simple, sensuous form with brilliant, strong colors. She is noted for using the double-bubble (incalmo) technique learned from a Venetian master. Requiring great precision, the technique allows the artist to achieve adjoining but distinct bands of color. For Blomdahl, color is a matter of mood rather than meaning. Her goal is to communicate serenity and calm through the symmetrical, spherical form and rich use of color. At first glance, Bomdahl's vessels may appear deceptively simple; but with study, their meditative quality emerges and reveals the richness and complexity of her work.
