Cutline of image published in Pittsburgh Courier newspaper, December 8, 1945, pg. 22, reads: "One of the Best - Ethel Waters, who will open here Monday at the Nixon Theatre in a major role in 'The Passing Show,' is one of America's all-time great entertainers. Miss Waters appeared here last in 'Mamba's Daughters.'"

Artist Bio

Teenie Harris photographed for the Pittsburgh Courier for almost 40 years, documenting life in the African-American community. His approximately 70,000 negatives, recently acquired by the museum, form one of the richest-known archives of Black life in an American city from the 1930s to the 1970s.
